What mental health treatment at Villa looks like

Treatment at Villa Healing Center is delivered at the residential level of care, which means adults live onsite in a state-licensed mental health facility with clinical staff available 24 hours a day. The residential setting is appropriate for adults whose mental health conditions need daily clinical attention whose home environment cannot support stabilization.

Each admission begins with a clinical assessment by a licensed therapist. The assessment establishes the primary diagnosis, any co-occurring mental health or substance use conditions, the level of safety risk, and the treatment plan. From there, your treatment team builds one written plan covering psychotherapy, group therapy, family involvement when appropriate, psychiatric medication management, and integrative wellness programming. The plan is reviewed and updated throughout the stay.

Length of stay is based on clinical recommendations rather than a fixed timeline. Most adults benefit from several weeks of residential care followed by continued therapy, medication review, and ongoing support as they transition to the next phase of treatment.

Prose synthesis: For adults whose mental health needs daily clinical attention but who are not in acute medical or psychiatric emergency, residential treatment holds therapy, medication management, and integrative wellness programming in one place. Villa Healing Center operates at the residential level. Continued therapy is available as a step-down, and an acute psychiatric emergency is a 911 or 988 situation.

How We Treat Mental Health Conditions at Villa Healing Center

Our residential program combines evidence-based psychotherapy, psychiatric medication management, group therapy, family involvement when appropriate, integrative wellness programming, and 24-hour clinical staffing.

A typical week in residential includes individual therapy sessions, group therapy sessions including dedicated skills groups, family therapy on a scheduled basis when clinically appropriate, psychiatric medication management visits, and integrative wellness programming. Behavioral health staff are onsite 24 hours a day.

Our integrated treatment plan addresses primary mental health conditions and any co-occurring conditions under one plan. The National Institute of Mental Health reports that an estimated 21 percent of U.S. adults experienced any mental illness in 2022, and roughly half of adults with a mental illness also had a co-occurring substance use disorder at some point. Treating one without the other typically produces incomplete outcomes, which is why our clinical assessment screens for both at admission and the treatment plan covers both throughout the stay.

Evidence-Based Therapies and Medications

Treatment at Villa Healing Center uses evidence-based approaches with established support in clinical literature: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, trauma-focused therapy including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, family therapy, group therapy, and psychiatric medication management.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most studied psychotherapy across mental health conditions. It works on the patterns of thinking and behavior that maintain symptoms and teaches skills that apply outside of session. CBT is used at Villa Healing for depression, anxiety disorders, and trauma patterns that respond to cognitive restructuring.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), developed by Marsha Linehan, has the strongest evidence base for adults with chronic suicidal ideation, self-harm behavior, or borderline personality disorder. DBT teaches distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness, and is integrated through individual therapy and dedicated DBT skills groups.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is recommended for trauma-related symptoms by the American Psychological Association and the World Health Organization. EMDR is delivered by credentialed clinicians when trauma is part of the clinical picture.

Family therapy is offered when clinically appropriate and when the adult authorizes family involvement. Family therapy can be a meaningful part of treatment, particularly for adults whose support system is involved in recovery.

Psychiatric medication management is part of the clinical program and is provided by a psychiatric prescriber. Medication is matched to the primary diagnosis and any co-occurring condition. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors are commonly used for major depressive disorder and several anxiety disorders. Mood stabilizers are used when clinically indicated. Other agents are prescribed based on individual clinical picture.

Insurance and Admissions

Villa Healing Center accepts most major commercial insurance for residential mental health care in Woodland Hills, including residential admissions. Most commercial plans cover residential mental health care with prior authorization, and continued-stay reviews are conducted based on medical necessity. Out-of-pocket cost depends on your plan deductible and coinsurance.

If your plan is out-of-network, we work with you on out-of-network reimbursement, single-case agreements, and self-pay options. Call (888) 669-0661 to discuss options.

Residential Mental Health Care in Woodland Hills and Los Angeles County

Villa Healing Center is a residential mental health treatment center located at 23033 Ostronic Drive, Woodland Hills, California 91367, in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County.

Public health data from Los Angeles County estimates that approximately one in four adults in the county is living with a mental health disorder. Statewide, the federal Health Resources and Services Administration has designated much of California as a Mental Health Professional Shortage Area, and the California Health Care Foundation has documented persistent provider shortages with long wait times for initial mental health appointments. Adults across the San Fernando Valley and the broader Los Angeles area searching for residential mental health care often face limited options that combine evidence-based therapy with 24-hour clinical staffing under one roof. Therapy providers are common in the region, but the residential level of care is a much smaller pool of facilities, especially for adults seeking a mental-health-led residential setting rather than an addiction-led one.

Our residence sits in Woodland Hills, accessible from the 101 and 405 Freeways. We serve adults from across the San Fernando Valley and coordinate admissions from across California. Adults from across Los Angeles County, Ventura County, Orange County, and the broader Southern California region travel to our Woodland Hills facility for residential care.
