Humana Mental Health Coverage at Villa Healing Center

Villa Healing Center works with Humana employer and individual health plans for adult residential mental health treatment. Tell us which Humana plan you carry and we will find out what it pays toward a stay, free of charge and before you decide anything.

Humana Plans We Work With, and Those We Don't

Humana sells several very different kinds of coverage under one name, so the first step is sorting out which one is on your card.

We work with:

  • Humana plans provided through an employer
  • Humana individual and family plans

We do not work with:

  • Humana Medicare Advantage plans, including Gold Plus and HumanaChoice
  • Original Medicare with a Humana supplement
  • Humana Medicaid plans

If your card mentions Medicare or Medicaid anywhere, we are not able to bill that plan. Our team can still talk with you about other ways to pay for treatment.

Reading Your Humana Card

A few details on the card tell us most of what we need:

  • Plan name. Printed near the top, it shows whether your coverage is an employer plan, an individual plan or a government plan.
  • Group number. Present on employer plans. It tells us which company’s benefit package applies to you.
  • Member ID. The number we give Humana to pull up your benefits.
  • Behavioral health phone number. Usually on the back. Mental health benefits are often handled by a separate Humana department, and this is the line we call.

A photo of the front and back is enough for us to get started.

The Questions We Put to Humana for You

Once we have your card details, we contact Humana and ask:

  1. Does this plan include residential mental health treatment as a covered level of care?
  2. Can the member use a provider outside Humana’s contracted list?
  3. What would the member owe for each day or for the full stay?
  4. Is approval needed in advance, and what clinical information does Humana want to see?

We come back to you with the answers in everyday language, usually the same day when you reach us by phone.

When Humana Says Yes, and When It Says No

If your plan includes benefits for a stay with us, our clinical staff prepares the approval request and keeps Humana updated while you are here, so you are not making calls from treatment.

If your plan does not include those benefits, we tell you directly. From there we can go over payment options, or point you toward a hospital or outpatient program if that suits your situation better. How we review any plan is laid out on our insurance verification page.

Who Comes to Villa Healing Center

Our Woodland Hills home serves adults who need more support than weekly appointments can give. Many arrive after depression has stopped responding to outpatient care, or while living with grief, anxiety or the effects of trauma. Residents live on site, meet with therapists one to one and in groups, and have their medications overseen by our psychiatric team. You can read about daily life in our residential program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Villa Healing work with Humana Medicare Advantage?

No. We do not work with Medicare or Medicare Advantage plans from any insurer, and the same applies to Medicaid plans.

Does my Humana employer plan pay for residential mental health treatment?

Some do and some don't, because each employer chooses what its plan includes. We check your specific plan before you commit to anything.

Is Humana Military the same as Humana insurance?

No. Humana Military runs the TRICARE East Region for the Department of Defense.

How long does a Humana benefits check take?

By phone, we usually have an answer the same day. Through the online form, allow about one business day.
