Health Net insures Californians, and Villa Healing Center treats them close to home. We work with Health Net plans and with MHN, its mental health division, for adults who need residential mental health treatment in Los Angeles County.
Health Net has served California for more than four decades and was headquartered for many years in Woodland Hills, the same community as our facility. Since 2016 it has been owned by Centene Corporation, a national insurance group.
Most Health Net members live in California, and many are in the Los Angeles area. For them, treatment with us means no flights and no long separation from family.
Health Net mental health treatment is managed by MHN, short for Managed Health Network. MHN is part of Health Net and may also appear on your paperwork as Health Net behavioral health.
MHN has its own phone line, usually printed on the back of your member card. Its clinicians decide whether residential care is approved and review progress during a stay. You can often contact MHN yourself, without going through your primary care doctor first.
Health Net sells four kinds of plan in California. The type matters more than anything else on your card.

Your plan type appears on the front of the card, often as part of the plan name.
Health Net offers both PPO and HMO plans on Covered California, the state marketplace. Two points often cause confusion:
If you receive extra cost reductions on a Silver plan, tell us. They can lower what you owe.
Having an HMO, EPO or HSP plan does not always close the door. California requires health plans to provide medically necessary mental health care within set time and distance limits. If a plan cannot offer a suitable program through its own contracted providers in time, it may have to arrange and pay for care elsewhere.
In practice, this is done through a one-time arrangement between MHN and a facility for a single patient, often called a single case agreement. MHN grants these case by case and they are never guaranteed. Our admissions team can request one when the clinical picture supports it.
California gives members a strong right of appeal that many people never use.

Health Net is one of the largest Medi-Cal plans in Los Angeles County and also sells Medicare plans under the Wellcare name. Villa Healing Center does not work with Medi-Cal or Medicare coverage of any kind. This page applies to Health Net plans obtained through an employer, Covered California or direct purchase.
